Writer and Narrative Designer on Perfect Dark –– sadly cancelled before release.

The Initiative’s Perfect Dark was a narrative-driven, AAA first-person science fiction game starring Joanna Dark, a skilled spy and action heroine reimagined for the modern era.

I drove the creative and technical narrative work for two wide-linear levels, including the level depicted in the gameplay trailer.

Work higlights included:

  • Developed lore and story alongside Lead Writer and Creative Director.
  • Owned narrative for full missions, from writing level dialogue and vignettes to implementation in Unreal Engine 5.5.
  • Wrote branching conversation scene with 3 choice points and a converged ending that introduced an important main character.

Full work on Perfect Dark included:

  • Created and designed narrative beats in Excel to support the level story, gameplay needs, and deliver critical path information.
  • Crafted engaging dialogue between characters to develop characters arcs, further plot, and realize narrative beats.
  • Pitched key elements of story, lore, and character backstories in writers’ room.
  • Led technical narrative implementation in Unreal Engine 5.5 for two levels, set dialogue triggers, and tested for narrative resilience.
  • Honed and iterated the voice and tone of the project in close collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Developed character biographies for main and secondary cast members.
  • Delivered engaging environmental storytelling with NPC overheard conversations and supplemental collectibles.
